Third Grade

Our 3rd graders are using mallet instruments and solfege (do-re-mi-so-la) syllables with our songs from a variety of styles. Proper mallet technique is being taught and assessed. Every lesson also includes movement, from folk dancing to freestyle improvisation. Also, students are learning to identify, draw, and play the various notes and rests. In class the students are learning through games, songs, and instrument playing.

Singing is a vital part of each music class. In 3rd grade students learn to sing in a round which is their first experience with part singing. Songs will be learned from a variety of genres and styles. They will sing patriotic, traditional, folk, jazz, African spirituals, blues, and many other genres.

The third graders will be presenting a Veterans program on Monday, November 19 at 6:30 pm. Please invite family, friends and any veterans you know so we can honor them. This will be an especially meaningful program for me since my son just joined the United States Air Force. Mrs. Ropp
