Second Grade

In 2nd grade students will learn many songs in varying styles. Harvest song, Christopher Columbus, bounce high bounce low are a few. Playing the xylophones with a steady beat and discerning wood from metal sounds is a skill we are working on this semester. Also, in 2nd grade I teach the solfege scale and we mainly focus on patterns using so-la-mi for our melody warm-ups. For our rhythm practices the students are reviewing the eighth and quarter notes and learning about quarter rests, half notes, and dotted half notes. We use a large variety of instruments in the music room. From tambourines to triangles to drums, students are discovering new sounds, patterns, and cooperatively putting it all together to make beautiful music. Students at this age learn new folk dances that will become favorites for years to come.

Look for ways to enjoy music together with your child during your drive in the car, around the house or go to a concert! Music is everywhere!
